No episódio de hoje, vamos falar do PASSADO SIMPLES DO INGLÊS!
O passado simples (past simple ou simple past) é o tempo equivalente ao pretérito perfeito do indicativo, indicando uma ação já concluída. A diferença entre o “Present Perfect” e o “Simple Past” é que o primeiro não define quando o fato ocorreu enquanto o segundo já demonstra isso. A maioria dos verbos em inglês é dividida entre verbos regulares (regular verbs) e verbos irregulares (irregular verbs). Os irregulares são os verbos que não são conjugados da mesma maneira que os regulares e para os quais não existe uma regra geral; para cada verbo irregular há uma regra.

O episódio de hoje é sobre como usar o PAST SIMPLE!
Vamos começar vendo um texto de exemplo:
Em português:
Mozart foi um compositor e músico austríaco.
Ele viveu de 1756 a 1792.
Ele começou a compor na idade de cinco anos e escreveu mais de seiscentas músicas.
Ele só tinha 35 anos quando morreu.
Mozart was an Austrian musician and composer.
He lived from 1756 to 1791.
He started composing at the age of five and wrote more than 600 pieces of music.
He was only 35 years old when he died.

LIVED, STARTED, WROTE, WAS, DIED presentes nesse texto, são verbos que estão no PASSADO SIMPLES do INGLÊS!
O SIMPLE PAST do Inglês divide os verbos em dois tipos: os Verbos Regulares e os Verbos Irregulares.
Em frases AFIRMATIVAS, os verbos regulares terminam em -ED ou -IED.
Por exemplo:
Eu trabalho em uma agência de viagens agora. Antes disso, eu trabalhava em uma loja de departamentos.
I work in a travel agency now. Before that I worked in a department store.
I work in a travel agency now. Before that I worked in a department store.
Nós convidamos eles para a nossa festa, mas eles decidiram não vir.
We invited them to our party, but they decided not to come.
We invited them to our party, but they decided not to come.
A polícia me parou quando eu estava indo para casa ontem a noite.
The police stopped me on my way home last night.
The police stopped me on my way home last night.
Laura passou em seu exame porque ela estudou muito.
Laura passed her exam because she studied very hard.
Laura passed her exam because she studied very hard.
Porém, muitos verbos são irregulares, e não recebem -ED nas frases afirmativas do Passado Simples.
Por exemplo:
Machado de Assis escreveu muitos livros.
Machado de Assis wrote many books.
Machado de Assis wrote many books.
write é um verbo irregular, e wrote é sua forma no passado.
Eu fui ao cinema três vezes na semana passada.
I went to the cinema three times last week.
I went to the cinema three times last week.
go é um verbo irregular e went é sua forma no passado.
Em PERGUNTAS nós usamos o verbo auxiliar DID antes do verbo no infinitivo e em negativas usamos DIDN’T antes do verbo no infinitivo.
Por exemplo:
Você saiu ontem à noite?
Sim, eu fui ao cinema, mas não curti o filme.
Did you go out last night?
Yes, I went to the cinema, but I didn’t enjoy the film very much.
Did you go out last night?
Yes, I went to the cinema, but I didn’t enjoy the film very much.
Quando sua mãe morreu?
Em torno de dez anos atrás.
When did you mother die?
About ten years ago.
When did you mother die?
About ten years ago.
Eles não nos convidaram para a festa, então nós não fomos.
They didn’t invite us to the party, so we didn’t go.
They didn’t invite us to the party, so we didn’t go.
O passado do verbo TO BE é was, QUANDO o sujeito for I, HE, SHE, ou IT e WERE, quando o sujeito for WE, YOU ou THEY.
Por exemplo:
Eu estava com raiva porque eles estavam atrasados.
I was angry because they were late.
I was angry because they were late.
Você saiu ontem a noite ou você estava muito cansado?
Did you go out last night or were you too tired?
Did you go out last night or were you too tired?
